Years and years ago, McDonalds ran an ad campaign that featured a character named "Mac Tonight" who loosely resembled a Ray Charles type of piano player and singer with a cresent moon for a head. He was known for sporting black sunglasses at night (his only appearances). The ad campaign ran from about 1986-1988. I had become very frustrated because whenever I brought up Mac Tonight with my contemporaries, they never remembered ol' Mac. Personally, I had collected the various Mac Tonight Happy Meal toys that featured Mac in various automobiles. What kid didn't want a moon-headed, sunglass wearing, singing advertising character rolling smoothly in a jeep? Fortunately, youtube has vindicated me and Mac Tonight lives again to be watched by millions online...
And who would have known... Mac is back! This commercial is from overseas, but could Mac Tonight make a CGI domestic return to his old glory days?

The Good, The Ugly.
When television first began, I'm not sure anyone could have predicted that advertising would eventually become such an art form. Does it surprise us these days to see "amazing" commercials with intense graphics, hundreds or even thousands of extras, expensive music samples, film quality takes, or content so funny that you remember the commercials over the show you were supposedly watching? It has gotten to the point that I rampantly disregard anything that doesn't interest me in a significant way. I do take my commercials seriously... and when someone scores with me - they score! How about this gem...
... but of course, stuff like this is still around...

Freshness from the Web
More and more I look for interesting entertainment online... not on television. And this ongoing writers strike has me paying more attention to user-created content available for free on the web. What strikes me is that even with less professional finish and organization, a whole lotta people can make interesting stuff than a few pros. Good stuff of the day...

Sonic III
I never really considered making video game music a big deal... but apparently I was wrong. Happy Thanksgiving!

Note
Being off work seriously hinders this blog thing... I'll be back on the grind come Monday. On the NCAA side, it sucks that all these PAC10 hoops teams are losing to random unranked teams. $C, Stanford, Oregon... am I missing any? OV-ER-RA-TED! Only the Bruins are keeping their end of the bargain, which is all I really want anyway.
Sesame Street
No longer for kids? Hmph! This article is pretty interesting on the changing face of what is appropriate for toddlers. Those of us in generation Y or the millenium generation or whatever we are called were apparently corrupted beyond belief. Oh Bert! You've made a cynic out of meeeeeeeeeeee!

Rock Me Gently...
How it's done right here... if you can get me singing to your commercial... you're certainly on the right path to my wallet.

The Way It's Done...
CareerBuilder.com may not be a site that I ever use, but if they are ever close to going under, this satisfied customer may have to send them a check. Their commercials are amazing. I'm hoping that maybe some of their ad people (whoever those geniuses may be) will write some new material for my television shows (I.E. - The Office) while THOSE writers are on strike.
